Stop hiding
Are You Hiding?
We all do it. Sometimes, we don’t even call it hiding—we dress it up as “needing to get it right” or “waiting for the perfect time” or “what if I fail?” But let’s call it what it really is: hiding. We’re hiding our best work from the world.
We hide because we’re scared of what people might think. We hide because we want to be liked. We hide because staying comfortable feels safer than taking a risk.
When I published my first book, I was terrified. Sure, I put my work out there—but I didn’t tell a soul. I convinced myself it wasn’t good enough. “I’m not a real writer,” I thought. “It’s not that good.” These thoughts held me back. I think I sold about ten copies, and to this day, I have no idea how those people even found out about it.
Putting your work out into the world is risky. It’s scary.
By the time I wrote my second book, I decided to go all in. I told everyone I knew about it and made a big splash. But even then, that little voice in my head was whispering, “Be quiet, Michele. You’re going to embarrass yourself.” “The book’s just okay.”
But I was done hiding. Done being scared.
So now I ask you: Are you hiding? Are you depriving the world of your best work? Are you telling yourself, “I’ll do it when I can make it perfect”?
Here’s the truth: perfectionism is just another form of hiding. Your first attempt won’t be perfect. It might even be just okay. But guess what? That’s where everyone starts. Your second attempt will be better. And the one after that? Even better. But if you don’t start—if you don’t stop hiding—you’ll stay exactly where you are: a cog in the wheel. Comfortable. Safe. And unfulfilled.
We need your work. Whether it’s a book, a blog, a video, or something else entirely, the world wants to see you. We want to know you.
Stop hiding. You’re better than you think you are. And you are absolutely wo
rth it.
